Who can use a Federal Write-In Absentee (Vote by Mail) Ballot?
- Military personnel and their voting age dependents both in the United States and overseas.
- U.S. citizens overseas only.
Where do I get a Federal Write-In Absentee (Vote by Mail) Ballot?
- Federal Write-In Absentee (Vote by Mail) Ballots are available through Voting Assistance Officers at military installations or at U.S. embassies/consulates.
How do I use the Federal Write-In Absentee (Vote by Mail) Ballot?
- The FWAB is a (back-up) ballot for military personnel and overseas citizens who have not received the regular absentee ballot from the state after having made a timely application for the ballot. (30 days before the general election)
- The FWAB is used to vote for all offices, federal, state and local for which the voter would otherwise be entitled to vote.
THE ABSENT UNIFORMED SERVICES VOTER MUST:
- Be absent from his/her voting residence.
- Have applied for a regular ballot early enough so the request is received by the appropriate local election official not later than 30 days before the general election.
- Have not received the request regular absentee ballot from the state.
THE CITIZEN OUTSIDE THE UNITED STATES
- Be located outside the United States (including APO/FPO address).
- Have applied for a regular ballot early enough so the request is received by the appropriate local election official not later than 30 days before the election.
- Have not received the requested regular absentee ballot from the state.
