April 2021

From the Supervisor

Letter from your Supervisor of Elections

We are hearing some buzz about election legislation and eagerly awaiting the outcome of the session to implement the new election law changes. Watch your local paper for updates.

A few times this month I had the opportunity to be out serving in the community. I had the honor of speaking with the Military Officers of America. I am so thankful for their participation and interest in the electoral process.

Ferris Groves was a big hit on the weekend of the Strawberry Festival. Staff and I were able to have a table set up for information and registering voters.

The elections team and volunteers have been busy registering voters at the Lecanto Post Office and the YMCA.

We have four new volunteers that are serving at the election office. Three volunteers started in March and one in February. They are helping with outreach events, office tasks, answering the phone and registering voters.

Staff is continuing to be busy with election related classes, Zoom meetings and webinars. These avenues for training have allowed us to continue training through the pandemic.

2022 is the year for redistricting. This takes place every 10 years after the Census. New districts will be added and assigned. New maps for the districts and precincts will be created and new Voter Information Cards will be mailed to the voters a few months before the 2022 elections.

Please contact our office for more information and suggestions.

Volunteer Appreciation April 19 - 23

David Hoes is a new volunteer in the office. David is not new to elections, he also serves as an election worker on election day and during early voting.

Odd-numbered years are often a time when our office focuses on education and training. A number of staff are participating in Florida Certified Elections Professional (FCEP) courses, which will better prepare them for future elections. Thankfully in this pandemic we are able to complete courses through via Zoom.

Meet Nick Gilroy

We are excited to welcome Nick Gilroy to our elections team! Nick is our newest hire. He is the Warehouse and Elections Specialist. Nick is responsible for warehouse operations. He was a part time employee through the 2020 elections. His first day was March 22, 2021. Welcome to the team Nick!

Kari Tedrick, our Election Worker Coordinator, has had the pleasure of visiting some nearby elections offices. She had the opportunity to observe and share ideas regarding procedures and training materials. Its always exciting to tour another elections warehouse.
